Who is eligible to join

The following are eligible for membership in SJCU:

  • Any and all persons who live, or regularly work, attend school or worship in the City of San Jose, California, as well as any and all businesses, corporations, associations or organizations located in San Jose.
  • Active and retired employees of the City of San Jose, California, and commission and city council members and volunteer reserve police officers of the City of San Jose, California.
  • Persons within the immediate family or household of a Credit Union Member. Immediate family is defined as a spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, grandchild, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, or any of the foregoing relationships by adoption. Household is defined as persons living in the same residence maintaining a single economic unit.
  • The surviving persons within the immediate family of a deceased member.
  • The surviving spouse of any person eligible for membership in this Credit Union.
  • Such select employee groups, organizations, associations, when approved by the Board of Directors of this Credit Union and by the Department of Financial Institutions.
  • Other Credit Unions organized under either federal or state laws appertaining to credit unions.

All new members must open their account with a minimum of $5.00 and a one time only membership fee of $5.00.
